Episode Summary
"Breast in Show" / Season 2, Episode 14
A story of exposing protesters, a Bruins wake, running for D.A. and
Catherine cooking her books.
Broadcast:
February 7, 2006
From ABC: The terminally ill Daniel Post (Michael J. Fox) hosts his own
funeral, an event that Denise Bauer would rather not attend. Meanwhile,
Alan Shore takes an interest in a woman who causes a political uproar when
she leads a protest with hundreds of bare-breasted women. And Catherine
Piper (Betty White), who is now the office building's new sandwich lady,
decides that the office of junior associate Garrett Wells is the perfect
spot for her to do her accounting work.
From Spoilerfix:
Daniel is dying and his family throws him a funeral, which proves to much
for Denise to bear. Alan and Shirley defend Irma, who took off her shirt
during a protest and is now being charged with a felony for political
reasons. If she is convicted, she will have to register as a sex offender.

Episode Dialogue
Officer Michael Minden: We advised her to put her clothes back on, but
she and her cohorts insisted on marching around topless.
Shirley Schmidt: She leans over to Alan (sotto). The District Attorney’s
here.
Alan Shore: (sotto) Ah, Fredrick Bodnar. Politicians are draw to cameras
like flies are drawn to…
Shirley Schmidt: Politicians.
__
Alan Shore: Not exactly the stuff erections are made of.
__
Terry Post: He won’t let me give him noogies anymore since last time the
chemo made his hair fall out.
Denise Bauer: [To Daniel] This is the wise-ass brother, right?
Daniel Post: No. He’s the dumbass. Patrick’s the wise-ass.
Cathy: Leave her alone, Terry. [To Denise] My job is to rescue you from
Terry. I’m tightass.
Denise Bauer: I’m Denise. No ass at all.
__
Daniel Post: Hey, you lost to a dead guy and a girl. Deal with it. You
want some zamboni cake?

Dialogue
As is typical, a script does not always make it to the broadcast
product intact. Following is a scene that was written for the Daniel Posts
'funeral' in the bar which does not appear in the final episode:
Scene description: Marty Doyle’s bar. Bruins paraphernalia cover the
walls. On an easel is a large poster of Post, with a circle with a red
line through it. There is also a memorial wreath made out of hockey pucks
and sticks. A zamboni cake that says, “So long, Daniel,” is on the table.
Everyone in the bar, man or woma, wears a Bruins T-shirt or jersey. They
all turn and cheer for Post.
Daniel Post: Everyone this is Denise. *To Denise* Now it’s your job
to figure out who they are.
Terry: Hey! You must be the widow Post. I’m Terry, his brother.
Denise Bauer: Hi, Terry.
Terry: He won’t let me give him noogies anymore since last time the
chemo made his hair fall out.
Denise Bauer: To Daniel. This is the wise-ass brother, right?
Daniel Post: No. He’s the dumbass. Patrick’s the wise-ass.
Cathy, also late thirties, approaches.
Cathy: Leave her alone, Terry. To Denise. My job is to rescue you
from Terry. I’m tightass.
Denise Bauer: I’m Denise. No ass at all.
Another example is removing lines from one character and expanding them
for the other. At the end of the bar funeral, as Denise leaves, Daniel
stops her at the door. In the aired episode, Daniel's lines stop after "It
just sucks". This is how the original script had him complete his scene:
Daniel Post: I know. It sucks. That’s it. It just sucks. *A beat*
But it’s gonna such whether we’re out here crying, or we’re in there
laughing and drinking. That’s the beautiful thing about the Irish. We all
know that.
The aired episode then added these lines, not in the original script, for
the Denise character:
Denise Bauer: This is, this is good for you. And everyone in there
is unbelievable. And I have been trying. I really have. But… you’re dying
and it’s eating me up inside. You go back. It’s your party.

The Pickle Dish blog by Betsy Pickle
Last night's episode of "Boston Legal" featured a storyline in which
activist Irma Levine (Lisa Vidal), the budding love interest of lawyer
Alan Shore (James Spader), marched topless with dozens of other women to
protest the redrawing of voting-district boundaries to favor local
incumbent politicians. [edit] The "Boston Legal" episode was amusing
because, as I watched my TiVo recording, I didn't even notice that the
women weren't wearing tops. I was looking at the placards they were
carrying. When Irma was arrested, I had to replay the scene to see what
the fuss was about. Even though the situation was fictional, I supported
the protesters because they did what they did to get attention, and their
less-exposed efforts weren't getting them anywhere. In my opinion, this
falls under the category of "By any means necessary."
